Richard founded Arphilia Consulting in 2020, building on close to 40 years of experience as an accountant, business leader, professional entrepreneur, and member of the senior leadership team of a global firm.
After spending 10 years as a professional accountant mainly in Big Four accounting firms and 10 years as General Manager of companies in garment manufacturing and marketing of global brands, Richard co-founded and was the CEO of ABAX, a regulated financial, corporate and fiduciary services company.
He led ABAX to grow from a start-up in 2001 to becoming a leading Management Company in Mauritius, with a workforce of 300 professionals administering client assets of USD 23 billion. ABAX developed a special focus on clients investing in and doing business in Africa.
In 2018, ABAX was acquired by Ocorian, a global trust and administration firm. Richard was appointed Regional Head of Africa, Middle East and Asia and Group ExCo member of Ocorian. He retired from Ocorian in 2020.
Richard has a long experience as a board member of international companies and private equity funds investing in Africa and Asia. He has also participated in committees to advise the Mauritius government and Business Mauritius on the development of the Mauritius International Financial Centre. He is a regular speaker and panellist in international forums on investment in Africa.
